Fumay (pronunciation: ​[fy.mɛ]) is a municipality (3,476 inhabitants in 2016) in the Ardennes department in northern France, on a meander of the Meuse River, Grand Est region. Fumay is sometimes known as "The City of Slate" (La Cité de l'Ardoise) due to the slate mining which brought prosperity to the town in the 19th century. The last slate mine was closed in 1971.
