Initial set of standard decimal Machins, replacing the pre-decimals (which continued to be valid for use until August 1972). Standard letter rate at this point was 3p, and on 6 March 1972, second class post was introduced at 2½p. This rate, and several other price rises, were catered for by the range of values available in this set.
