By the early 1850's the volumes of post had started to increase exponentially, much more than at first envisioned, even more than Rowland Hill could have hoped for. The post offices were getting more numerous and larger and the Inland Office and GPO were handling the largest volumes of all the mails. More counter clerks were employed to help with sorting and cancelling which meant a larger range of numbers being required for different tasks. The handstamps also wore out a lot more frequently. Replacements were issued as required all the while new series of cancels were being issued.
For many of these new handstamps it becomes easier to classify them as having a series of Bars. Which are normally expressed as
Total Bars (Top complete bars, broken left bars, broken right bars, Bottom complete bars.)
The handstamps were re-issued in full, in stages.

1853 May 11 Bars (2,7,7,2)[edit]

1855 May various numerals.[edit]

Handstamps numbered 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 50 and 51 were issued and appear to have been a rushed issue due to the fact that they are not standardly cut handstamps.
See images for Bar information.

Bars 3,5,5,2
Bars 3,8,9,3

1855 June various numerals.[edit]

Following on from the last issue the numerals continued sequentially with numbers 52 to 75 again. Numbers omiited 60, 61,66 & 68 all due to possible inversions.
Again the issue seems to have been rushed with 3 varieties.
See images for Bar information.
