Stockton-on-Tees, or simply just Stockton, is a large market town in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. An unparished collective of wards form the town, with a combined population of 85,000.

Stockton is a former port town on the River Tees. The river was straightened to facilitate access for larger ships. The ports have since relocated closer to the North Sea, and ships are no longer able to sail from the sea to Stockton due to the Tees Barrage, which was installed to manage tidal flooding.

Stockton's port was served by the Stockton and Darlington Railway, on which coal was ferried from Darlington for shipment from Stockton. The railway was also the world's first permanent steam-locomotive-powered passenger railway, though in recent times Stockton station's importance has declined.

Stockton was issued with the 732 Post Office Numeral in 1844

Greatham

Greatham, Stockton-on-Tees cancel.

Greatham historically came under Stockton-on-Tees, but now is in the constituency of Hartlepool in County Durham.

Greatham village is not mentioned in the Domesday Book, but appears first in written sources as Gretham in 1196.

Greatham is the site of the Hospital of God, founded in 1273 by the then Bishop of Durham, Robert de Stichell. Greatham Hospital was originally a foundation to aid poor people. By the 16th century the foundation was used more as a "house of entertainment for gentlemen" and it was not well used for helping the poor. After 1610 there were reforms, and its original mission was resumed.

During World War II it was the site of the short-lived RAF Greatham base.

In May 2021, the parish council of Greatham, alongside the parish councils of the villages of Elwick, Hart, and Dalton Piercy, all issued individual votes of no confidence in Hartlepool Borough Council, and expressed their desire to re-join County Durham.

Wolviston

Wolviston is a village and civil parish within the borough of Stockton-on-Tees and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England.

The village has several businesses, including a florist, saddlery, international consultancy firm, riding school and post office run by former Middlesbrough footballer Graeme Hedley and his wife. Wolviston benefits from two pubs, the Wellington Inn and the Ship. It has a traditional village green and a duck pond.

Wolviston can be traced back to before the Norman Conquest (1066), with name changes that appear to be related to Saxon times. In the 11th century it was known as Olverstona, in the 16th as Wulston and as Woulston in the late 17th century. In 1577 Wolviston became a separate parish. There have been two churches in the village. The first, from the 12th century and dedicated to St Mary Magdelene, fell into disrepair in the 16th century but was restored in 1716. In 1876 a new church dedicated to St Peter was built behind the High Street and the old church was demolished in 1878. The new building was renovated in 1969–1972.
