Abeokuta is a city (451,607 inhabitants in 2006), the state capital of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. It is situated on the east bank of the Ogun River, near a group of rocky outcrops in a wooded savanna. The place is named Abeokuta because it has a big rock which allowed many warrior to hide whenever war arises and had always been victory at all times. Abeokuta is connected to nearby Lagos by a railway that was completed in 1899, with a length of 77 km.
