Description
This issue celebrates the Golden Jubilee of the 1954 Royal Tour of Australia by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Stamp
Several design elements reflect the historic tour of 1954 and style of the 7 1/2 d stamp issued by Australia Post to mark the event. This year’s stamp uses the same Dorothy Wilding portrait of the Queen used in the 1954 stamp. The stamp is printed using a deep, regal purple that evokes the printing of the 1954 intaglio stamp. And a symbolic sprig of wattle flows from the stamp into the selvedge, echoing the importance of the wattle as a motif during the 1954 tour.
