Bad Oeynhausen is a spa town on the southern edge of the Wiehengebirge in the district of Minden-Lübbecke in the East-Westphalia-Lippe region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The closest larger towns are Bielefeld (39 kilometres southwest) and Hannover (80 km east).

The town surrendered to the Americans on April 3rd 1945 and the British occupied it on April 17th. The Military Government established the Control Commission for Germany – British Element (CCG/BE), under the British Zone of Occupation and served as the British Army of the Rhine headquarters. It requisitioned the entire town center which included some 1,000 homes. On May 4th these residents were informed that they had to leave by May 12th and they could not take their furniture. This comprised 6,500 to 9,000 people or about 70% of the town's population.

The town was returned to local control in 1954 and spa activities resumed. In 1976, seven surrounding municipalities of the "Amt Rehme" merged with Bad Oeynhausen into one commune. As the last state owned spa (German: Staatsbad) of NRW, in early 2004 Bad Oeynhausen was municipalised. At the end of 2020 its population was 48,535.

Bad Oeynhausen currently is assigned post codes 32545, 32547, and 32549.
