Saarbrücken is the administrative, commercial and cultural centre of the small state Saarland, in Germany since 1957. The city (177,201 inhabitants end 2013) situated next to the French border.
Saarbrücken was created in 1909 by the merger of three towns: Saarbrücken, St. Johann, and Malstatt-Burbach. It used to be the industrial and transport centre of the Saar coal basin.
Historically in the Département 101 La Sarre during French occupation before 1815, when it was given to Prussia. From 1920 to 1935, and again from 1947 to 1959, use of postage stamps issued specially
for the SARRE territory.
Brebach is a former municipality, today part of Saarbrücken, Germany.
