Georges Bétemps

Georges Bétemps, born on February 19, 1921 in Paris and died on April 18, 1992, was a French cartoonist, painter and postage stamp engraver. He designed or engraved more than 1500 stamps for French postal administrations and foreign ones.

He studied at the Estienne school and then at the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts, which he abandoned in 1941 to join the Resistance. Shortly after the liberation in 1946, he engraved his first French stamp.

In 1990, Grand Prix of Philatelic Art for TOM (Maori World Stamp of French Polynesia).
