440th anniversary of the Peasants’ Revolt

Miniature sheet 11.00K ~ monument to the Peasants’ Revolt by Antun Augustinčić, at Gornja Stubica
Border: battle scene (detail of relief)
Notes: the revolt, led by Matija Gubec, originated in manor of the landlord Franjo Tahy in Stubica, January 1573 (reputedly the biggest peasants revolt in Europe to that time). It was brutally put down in a series of battles (5th – 9th February)
