The term Highway Post Office refers to brightly colored red, white and blue buses used to carry mail to multiple areas over wide distances.
Madison & Prairie Du Chien was one such service of just under 100 miles that ran daily transferring mail across the USA.
The bus would stop, pick up and drop off mail en-route in places that there was no Rail or (RPO) service between town.
The MAD & PR DU CHIEN Bus ran along Route 18 East and West between the two Cities.
