The original office at Northfleet was opened before 1801. A Penny Post with Gravesend commenced in 1814. It bacame a Money Order office 23 July 1851 and a Savings Bank Office 16 September 1861. It became a telegraph office in 1870 (code NFL) and was renamed Northfleet Hill on 1 January 1886.
On the same day Upper Northfleet was renamed Northfleet. It was a Money Order and Savings Bank office, also a telegraph office keeping the code NFL. By July 1890 it was a sub-office and on 1 August 1891 a town sub-office of Gravesend with a new telegraph code, GNQ.
