Hi: I was just wondering with regards to your addition of a stamp you Listed as BG122/M117 Macedonian Liberation The 1 Lev Stamp A while back I had a correspondence with Keijo Kortelainen of www.StampCollectingBlog.com regarding this and another stamp also commemorating the Macedonian Liberation. It went as follow

My Question: I have two stamps that I have a question about 1. 1917-19 Typo: 1 Lev Dark green it was prepared but never issued. The Scott Catalogue doesn’t assign it a # (never has) but it does give it an “honourable mention and a value” 2. June 11 1921 50s Violet again prepared but not issued. Again no # but a value and mention as above. question: Do Michel or SG assign a number to these stamps or do they treat them the same as Scott does?

Keijo's response over a couple messages was I managed to find the stamps from Michel (both new and older editions) on closer look. But from different location than I expected. Michel lists them after the 1931 Balkan Olympics issue as Michel #IV (50s) and Michel #V (1L), and states the “release date” is November 1931. As far as I can tell, all in German speaking catalogs have listed these *always* separately from the two sets with issue date/year of 1931. For example my Zumstein 1949 Europe catalog has following footnote “Commemorative stamps, series ‘Celebration of Macedonian liberation war’. These stamps were prepared for release, and then sold for collectors (without postal validity) from the post offices. ” Even the series name (“Celebration of Macedonian Liberation war”) is different from the original two sets… So maybe these were planned as 10th anniversary issue of the 1921 release? Just speculating here… For the 1921 set my ancient Zumstein provides also an interesting footnote (that explains why Michel value for this series applies to CTO-copies): “These stamps were printed during the war in Germany. They were available only few days for domestic use, and then withdrawn on objection of the Yugoslav government.

I write this only out of curiosity because when I saw the 1 lev stamp and the number you had assigned to it, I wondered if Michel had assigned a number to it since the above correspondence

thank you Rene
