Description
Since 1980 Australia Post has issued an annual Queen's Birthday stamp to coincide with the Queen's real birthday, which is 21 April. Official celebrations of her birthday take place in Australia in June (October in Western Australia). The Queen is Australia's titular Head of State, represented here in Australia by the Governor-General. Her Majesty is also the Head of the Commonwealth.
45c Queen's Birthday Stamp
The stamp design features a contemporary photograph of the Queen with a montage of images from some of her visits to Australia. The photograph of the Queen was taken in 1996 at the 50th Royal Film Performance of the aptly-titled film True Blue in Leicester Square, London. The background photographs (from left to right) are as follows: Queen Elizabeth II at Sydney Town Hall for a civic reception during the Royal Family’s 1970 visit; the young Queen in Canberra during 1954; and Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Robert Menzies at Parliament House, in 1963.
