Description
This issue commemorates the hand over of the Olympic flag from Sydney to Athens. The flag ceremony symbolises the transfer of responsibility for the Olympic Games to Athens, the host city for the 2004 Olympic Games. The issue was launched at Olymphilex 2000;, the official stamp and coin exhibition for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Stamps
There are two stamps in the issue, the Parthenon (45c) and the Sydney Opera House ($1.50). Both were available with title tabs and as P Stamps. The design uses graphic and photographic images incorporating the Olympic flame, the Olympic flag and views of the two host cities Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). Shared elements unify the design. The $1.50 stamp is intended for overseas mail and incorporates the International Post signifier.
Single Stamps
Sheets
The personalized (P) stamps were issued on sheets with a decorative selvedge. These sheets were also produced with the printed title tabs.
