Note:
Meant and depicted is the Saint Virgil (Virgilius) of Salzburg after a carving as fresco figure on the ceiling of the "Erhardskirche" (= Parish Church "St.Erhard") in Nonntal near Salzburg. Virgilius (born around 700 in Ireland) was an important church man and astronomer of Irish descend during his time. He was as Benedictine monk on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in the Holy Land as he made a stopover in South Germany and Austria. Around of 766 he was appointed to the Bishop of Salzburg and in the same year also to the Abbot of the monastery "Saint Peter" in Salzburg. Virgilius dead on 27 November 784 in Salzburg. He was cannonized on 18 June 1233 by Pope Gregorius IX, his annual feast day is the 27 November.
