This definitive issue from Jamaica was released from 1956, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The stamps form part of Jamaica’s late colonial pictorial definitive series, combining the monarch’s portrait with local Jamaican scenes, symbols and subjects.
The issue was produced using recess printing, also known as intaglio printing, a process often used for higher-quality engraved stamp issues. The lower values were printed by De La Rue, while the higher values from 3s to £1 were printed by Bradbury Wilkinson. The stamps used the Multiple Script CA watermark, a watermark commonly found on British colonial and Commonwealth issues of the period.
