Košice (German: Kaschau, Hungarian: Kassa) is the biggest city (239,464 inhabitants end 2014) in eastern Slovakia, seat of the Košice region. It is situated on the river Hornád at the eastern reaches of the Slovak Ore Mountains. Historically in the Kingdom of Hungary, province of Hungary, before the creation of Czechoslovakia in 1918.
