Kowloon Branch 九龍分局 (HK)
This office was opened 1898.7.05 along with Western Branch. These two were the first opened in the colony after the General Post Office (G.P.O.), which opened as early as 1841. Kowloon Post Office was, like Western Branch, actually called in Chinese a "branch" (分局) of the main post office and early Kowloon cancellations read "Kowloon Branch" or "K.B.". However, all later postmarks merely read "Kowloon".
Kowloon Branch Post Office was initially located in the premises of the Wharf and Godown Company, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon [九龍尖沙咀九龍倉公司內]. It moved temporarily some time in 1904 to a location near the docks in Tsim Sha Tsui [近尖沙咀碼頭臨時局址], staying there only until 1906. In September 1906 it moved into a building on the harbour-facing side of Salisbury Road in Kowloon, remaining in business until the Japanese invasion in December 1941.
In September 1945 it re-opened in the same Salisbury Road premises, remaining until 1967.08.09, after which date it was replaced by the Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office. The Salisbury Road building was demolished about 1967.
