The motive shows the triumph of a man over a monster. The scenery has a geometrical harmony and roots to archaic elements of the Greek Antique (Archaic Period). The Pose of the main hero is copied from the sculpture "Hermes with the sandal", standing before the Louvre. The whole scenery shall remember the old-Greek mythological novel "Daphne and Chloë".

The composition shows the deep contrast between "Orientalism" and the "Realism" and illustrate the involvement of the artist with the art trends of the then time.
