Rüdesheim am Rhein is a winemaking town (9,733 inhabitants end 2013) in the Rhine Gorge and thereby part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It lies in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis district in the Region of Darmstadt in Hesse. It is famous for the Germania statue the Niederwald Niederwalddenkmal, celebrating the unification of the Empire of Germany, inaugurated in 1883. Not to be confused with Rüdesheim an der Nahe.
