Schwerin is the capital and second-largest city of the northern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The population is 91,583 (as of December 31, 2013) and 98.000 as of July 2016. Formerly capital of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1815 to 1871.
