Sillian is a market town (2,051 inhabitants end 2017) in the district of Lienz, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The municipality, at a height of about 1,100 m, is the main settlement in the East Tyrolean Hochpustertal, the eastern part of the Puster Valley, stretching from Lienz up to the border with South Tyrol, Italy in the west. The settlement is situated north of the upper Drava river, on the sunny slopes of the Villgraten Mountains. In the south, the valley stretches to the Lienz Dolomites and the Carnic Alps.

Innervillgraten is a small municipality (only 938 inhabitants end 2017, on a 88 km² area) in the district of Lienz. The region is one of the most remote regions in Austria, at the border with Italy (Carnic Alps) . A year-long connection to the valley was established as late as 1956.
