Pieter Willem Groen, born in Katwijk-aan-Zee (Holland), was on board the Emily when it was wrecked (all crew were saved).
He settled and married on Tristan. A community leader, he was honoured for his rescues of other shipwrecked sailors by Queen Victoria,
the King of Italy and by President Rutherford B Hayes (USA, 1879)
