Wiener Neustadt (pronunciation: [ˈviːnɐ ˈnɔʏʃtat]) is one of the 15 statutory towns (47,878 inhabitants end 2022) in Austria, located in the Steinfeld south of Vienna, in the state of Lower Austria. It is a self-governed city and the seat of the eponym Wiener Neustadt-Land District. The town is the site of one of the world's oldest military academies, the Theresian Military Academy, which was established by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1751 to train officers for the Austrian army.
