Zuoying is a 'district' (區) in the 2010-created 'special municipality' (直轄市) of Kaohsiung City (高雄市). Prior to this it was, firstly, a 'district' of the former Kaohsiung City (1945-79) and, secondly, of that same city under 'special municipality' status (1979-2010).
