Farnborough is a town in north east Hampshire, England, part of the borough of Rushmoor and the Aldershot Urban Area.

Farnborough was founded in Saxon times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name is formed from Ferneberga which means "fern hill".

The town is probably best known for its association with aviation – Farnborough Airshow, Farnborough Aerodrome, Royal_Aircraft_Establishment, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

Originally the Office was at the Station, handstamps exist showing Farnboro' Station in use up to the 1870's. Double handstamps had the numeral 023 The name changed in the early 1880's to read Farnborough Station. It again changed in 1884 when it was just shown as Farnborough. Later it became Farnborough Hants.

The office should not be confused with the Farnborough Kent office that used the J16 numeral.
