France 1953 Sports

From Stamps of the World
  • In 1953, the Post Office wanted to honour the French athletes who had won gold medals at the 1952 Helsinki Summer Olympics, but contemporary tradition dictated that stamps are not issued in honour of personalities who are not deceased, so each of their six disciplines was featured on the stamps in this series.
