Gliwice ([ɡlʲiˈvʲit͡sɛ]) (German: Gleiwitz) is a city (186,347 inhabitants in 2013) in Upper Silesia, southern Poland, near Katowice. Gliwice is the west district of the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union.
The city is located in the Silesian Highlands, on the Kłodnica river (a tributary of the Oder). Historically in the Prussian province of Silesia, District of Oppeln.
