On February 5, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 to be Law Day U.S.A.

The idea behind it was to educate the people of the USA about the rule of law,
so that they could appreciate the freedoms they have because of it.

Issued just before the Seventh World Law Conference of the World Peace Through Law Center, held October 12-17 1975, in Washington, DC

The theme for 2016 stemmed from the 1966 U.S. Supreme Court landmark case -- Miranda v. Arizona -- that led to the Miranda Warning.
It relates to the rights of protection of citizens in custody by the U.S. Constitution,
and deals with how the preservation of these rights is essential to their liberty.
