1849 cover from Stow on the Wold 535 sent via Moreton in Marsh to Stratford on Avon. Then redirected to Lapworth. Charged an extra 4d for redirection and has a fine Tiddington undated circular mark. It is addressed to the "Clerk of the Stratford & Moreton Railway Co.". This was opened in 1826 as a horse tramway. The southern section from Shipston on Stour to Moreton in Marsh ran steam trains from 1859. The company went broke in 1868 and was taken over by GWR. The horse-drawn northern section continued until 1880s and the lines were lifted in 1918 for the war effort. The line was formally abandoned in 1926, after 100 years of service.
