Plate 44

  • Put to Press Date: 19 July 1856
  • Destroyed: 29 October 1861 (However had already been taken off the presses on 20 April the same year)
  • Sheets printed: 601,500
  • Transitional shades exist
  • Constant Plate characteristics:
    • Large Crown Wmk
    • Perf 14 (The plate was used for a temporary perforation of Perf 16 in late Dec 1857-March 1858)
    • NE is always weak
    • No repairs have been noted
    • Main North East Ray of North East square is generally short. (Plates 37-49 & 52-60)
    • Most units showing the break in East frame (Plates 37-49 & 52-60)
