GB 1d Red Die II Plate 51

From Stamps of the World

Plate 51

  • Registration Date:
  • Destroyed:
  • Constant Plate characteristics:
    • Alphabet IV - Hand Engraved letters
    • 2/3rd break as seen on the plate range 37-49, 52-60 also persists.
    • Plate dots are well defined in many area's of the plate (fainter in others) and are found around and in the letter squares.

Because Plates 50 & 51 were both engraved by hand the lettering is fairly easy to distinguish from all other plates.

The notes below mainly refer to the differences between Plate 50 & Plate 51, so that they can be used to differentiate between these two plates.

Where they directly distinguish between the plates then they are marked with a ♦
