Kwidzyn (Historically; Marienberg, Marienwerder) is a town (37,814 inhabitants in 2006) and County in northern Poland on the Liwa river in the Powiśle (right bank of Vistula) region. It has been a part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999. MARIENWERDER was a District (Regierungsbezirk) capital when in the West Prussia province (before 1870), and capital of the Elbląg Voivodeship (1975–1998).

Plebiscite period June 1919 - August 1920
In June of 1919 the district came under control of the Inter-Allied Committee. Marienwerder was a small district of East Prussia. After WWI they were given the choice to join Germany or Poland by means of a plebiscite vote. The vote fell in favor of Germany. Marienwerder rejoined Germany on August 16, 1920.
