The Reichspostdirektion (RPD) Hannover/Braunschweig was established ca.1941 using Postleitzahl (PLZ) 20 and included the Land Braunschweig and the southern part of the Hildescheim region. Up until 23 July 1945 the eastern part of Blankenburg district along with the county seat Blankenburg was given to the Soviet Bizone based on an Allied agreement. In October 1946 it was reorganized into PLZ 20a (Hannover) and 20b (Brunswick), in the British Zone of Post WWII, Allied Occupied Germany.
