First (Late 1840) Repair - State 2 (SG AS58)
The first repair to plate 9 occurred to the following four letterings during Nov or Dec 1840 prior to printing in red ink. The 'O' flaw is obliterated and the SE ray of the NE star is generally now faint. Therefore no red prints of these letterings showing the 'O' flaw exist.
State 1 in Red (Units later repaired - SG AS57)
These units all show the 'O' flaw which was obliterated after the later repair
State 1 in red (Pre - Provisional printing - SG AS62/63)
These units all show the 'O' flaw which was obliterated after the later repair. They are characterised by having a later state in black. The 'A' row pre-provisionals are extremely rare, few examples being known.
Red printings following the First Repair - State 2 (SG AS59)
The Second (Provisional) Repair- State 2 (SG AS 60)
The second repair to plate 9 occurred early in January 1841 after the first printings in red had begun, but prior to the last (provisional) printing in black, resulting in units in red (the pre-provisional printings) existing in an earlier state than the final printing in black ink. The 'O' flaw was obliterated and many letterings show fainter check letters and weakness to the stars.
Red printings following the Provisional Repair State 2 (SG AS 61)
These letterings show similar characteristics as the state 2 black impressions.
Red printings following the late 1841 Repair - State 2 (SG AS 65)
The 'O' Flaw is obliterated.
Red printings following the late 1841 Repair - State 3 (SG AS 64)
The 'O' Flaw remains obliterated and the SE ray of the NE star is restored and now strong.
